        Primary barrier (primary isolation) is an isolation between the operator and the operation object. It can be realized by protection facilities such as bio-safety cabinets and positive pressure protective clothing.

        Secondary barrier (secondary isolation) is an isolation between the biosafety laboratory and the external environment. It prevents harmful organisms from dissipating from the lab to the external environment using construction technologies (such as airtight building structures, layout, ventilation air-conditions and air purification system, aseptic filtration and disinfection of polluted air and other pollutants for harmless emissions).
