The FOUNDATION Fieldbus (FF) protocol is a modern digital communication protocol, among which the FF H1 protocol has been widely used in large-scale chemical, power, petroleum and other process industries. Due to its many advantages, such as high reliability, high-speed data transmission, powerful diagnostic capabilities, and flexible device management, the FF H1 protocol has become an ideal bus choice for instrument monitoring and control in the process industry.
Although the FF H1 protocol performs well in field instrument communication, it still faces some challenges in practical applications. Most DCS (Distributed Control System) systems are typically based on analog and digital signal acquisition, lacking integration and support for the FF H1 protocol. This results in some on-site applications where DCS systems are unable to collect and centrally manage data from FF H1 instruments, thereby limiting comprehensive monitoring and optimization of the production process
Adopting Stimulation and Simulation methods, achieving identical human-machine interface and DCS functions for easy maintenance
Fast storage and loading of IC, taking no more than 1 minute
Provide IC management tools that are compatible with the original generated IC when upgrading DCS application software
Support comprehensive playback functions, including operating playback on the human-machine interface
Support fault simulation function, which can simulate all faults supported by actual DCS

After receiving a commission for a chemical upgrading and renovation project, a system integrator discovered that a large number of FF H1 instruments were used on site, and these instruments were widely used to monitor and control various parameters in the chemical production process, such as temperature, pressure, and flow. The goal of this project is to achieve centralized monitoring and data collection of these instruments, and integrate them into the existing DCS system. However, the DCS system used by the system integrator does not have a communication module that supports the FF H1 protocol, making it impossible to directly collect and monitor data from FF H1 instruments, making the project more complex and challenging.
In response, the system integrator has been actively seeking solutions to achieve effective collection and centralized management of FF H1 instrument data. After in-depth market research and solution evaluation, it was ultimately decided to choose Softing's FG-200 gateway to address this challenge.
The FG-200 gateway can integrate FF H1 field devices into devices that support Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU, and Modbus as an open standard can be integrated into DCS systems by most manufacturers.
