After determining the plan, the system integrator began to install and deploy the FG-200 gateway on site. Firstly, they conducted on-site research and instrument evaluation to understand the fieldbus layout and communication requirements. Then, based on the distribution of FF H1 network segments on site, the customer installed multiple FG-200 gateways (one FG-200 gateway can support the integration of four FF H1 network segments) and connected them to the FF H1 network segments on site. For some key process links, the customer chose to use two FG-200s to build redundant connections, ensuring the continuous transmission of critical data and the normal operation of the equipment.
After each gateway establishes communication with the instrument through its FF H1 interface, real-time data and status information of the instrument can be collected.
The instruments in this project have all been configured with parameters, so the customer only needs to configure the mapping from FF H1 to Modbus. The customer can automatically generate a Modbus mapping table based on the FG-200 configuration software, and configure the Modbus connection parameters, registers, and data types of the controller in the configuration tool to ensure correct data parsing and integration
In addition, users can also configure FF H1 devices through the Modbus master station. Because in addition to very critical process data (input and output values), FG-200 also supports mapping other parameters of various functional blocks of FF H1 devices to Modbus, including device operation mode, functional block status, instrument units, alarm configuration, and other parameters. Therefore, users can read and write the parameters and configuration information of FF H1 devices by using the Modbus master station, making the parameterized configuration and management of FF H1 devices more flexible and convenient for users.

In addition to Modbus, FG-200 also supports the FF HSE (High Speed Ethernet) protocol, which can be used to connect FF H1 devices to the FF HSE system, such as Emerson's AMS device management system, ABB CI860 communication module, NI-FBUS Configurator software, etc., and perform asset management, data collection, and parameterization configuration for on-site devices.
Softing provides free FF HSE configuration software that supports FG-200, so users can achieve more advanced configurations based on the description file (. CFF) of FF H1 devices, such as topology, PID connection configuration between instruments, etc. In addition, the configuration software not only provides an intuitive graphical interface, allowing users to easily perform online monitoring, instrument parameter configuration, Modbus mapping, and other operations, but also combines Wireshark to parse FF HSE messages to promote the development and debugging of FF devices and detect FF bus faults.
