Analysis of the test method for mattresses to perform 16CFR1633 open flame experiments

Product Features

16CFR 1633 Flammability Determination - Standard Name:

16 CFR 1633 Standard for the flammability (open flame) of mattresses sets.

16 CFR 1633 Standard for Flammability of Mattress Sets (Open Flame Test)

16CFR 1633 Flammability Determination - Standard Purpose:

Part 1633 specifies the flammability requirements that all mattress sets must meet before they can be sold or introduced into commerce.

The purpose of this standard is to reduce deaths and injuries related to mattress fires by limiting the size of the fire generated by the mattress during the 30-minute test.

16CFR 1633 Flammability Determination - Test Method:The mattress or mattress set is placed on top of the burning steel frame and for two T-burners with a total heat of 27KW, the burner on the side is ignited for 50 seconds and the top burner is ignited for 70 seconds. In the case of no flame control, the flue gas collected from the sample is analyzed with a gas analysis instrument, the heat release rate is regular and continuous, the peak heat release rate should not exceed 200Kw, and the total heat release should not exceed 15MJ in the first 10 minutes

16CFR 1633 Flammability Determination - The standard covers:

16CFR1633.1 Purpose, scope, and applicability

16CFR1633.2 Definitions

16CFR1633.3 General requirements

16CFR1633.4 Prototype testing requirements

16CFR1633.5 Prototype pooling and confirmation testing requirements. Testing requirements
