explain

The AD9371 is a highly integrated, broadband RF transceiver that provides dual channel transmitters and receivers, integrated synthesizers, and digital signal processing capabilities. This integrated circuit provides a versatile combination of high performance and low power consumption required for 3G/4G microtubules and macro BTS devices in FDD and TDD applications. The AD9371 operates at frequencies ranging from 300 MHz to 6000 MHz, covering most authorized and unlicensed cellular frequency bands. The IC supports receiver bandwidth up to 100 MHz. It also supports an observation receiver and transmission synthesis bandwidth of up to 250 MHz to accommodate digital correction algorithms.

The transceiver consists of a wideband direct converted signal path and state-of-the-art noise maps and linearity. Each complete receiver and transmitter subsystem includes DC offset correction, quadrature error correction (QEC), and programmable digital filters, eliminating the need for these functions in digital baseband. Some auxiliary functions are integrated, such as auxiliary analog-to-digital converter (ADC), auxiliary analog-to-digital converter (DAC), and general purpose input/output (GPIO), to provide additional monitoring and control capabilities.

Includes an observation receiver channel with two inputs for monitoring the output of each transmitter and implementing interference mitigation and calibration applications. The channel is also connected to three sniffer receiver inputs and can monitor radio activity in different frequency bands.

The high-speed JESD204B interface supports lane speeds of up to 6144 Mbps. Four lanes are dedicated to transmitters, and four lanes are dedicated to receiving channels and observation receiving channels.

Fully integrated phase locked loops (PLLs) provide high-performance, low-power sub n frequency synthesis for transmitters, receivers, observation receivers, and clock components. Careful design and layout techniques provide the isolation required in high-performance base station applications. All voltage loaded oscillators (VCOs) and loop filter components are integrated to minimize external component counts.

A 1.3 V power supply needs to power the core of the AD9371, and has a standard 4-wire serial port to control it. Other voltage sources provide the appropriate level of digital interface and optimize the performance of transmitters and auxiliary converters. The AD9371 is packaged in a 12 mm × 12 mm, 196 ball chip scale ball grid array (CSP_BGA).
