PCBN (Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride) tool is a polycrystalline cubic boron nitride which is formed by adding a certain binder to cubic boron nitride micropowder and sintering it under high temperature and high pressure. Its hardness is second only to diamond and much higher than other materials. It is collectively referred to as a superhard material.
Advantages of PCBN tools1, high hardness and wear resistance
The microhardness of CBN single crystal is 8000-9000 HV, the hardness of PCBN sintered body is generally 3500-5000 HV, and the ceramic and hard alloy are about 2400 HV and 1800 HV, respectively.
In general, the wear resistance of cubic boron nitride is 30 times that of coated alloys, 50 times that of uncoated cemented carbides, and 15 to 20 times that of ceramic inserts.
Therefore, PCBN tools are often used to process high-hardness materials, especially for high-automatic equipment. It can reduce the dimensional deviation or dimensional dispersion in the processing of large parts, reduce the time for tool change and make full use of its performance.
2. High thermal stability and high temperature hardness
CBN heat resistant up to 1400 ~ 1500 ℃, 800 ℃ when the hardness of Al2O3 / TiC ceramic hardness under normal temperature, therefore, when the cutting temperature is higher, can make the processed material softening, between the tool and increase hardness difference, is conducive to cutting, and had a little effects on tool life, this will create conditions for high speed cutting.
3. High chemical stability
CBN chemical inertness, particularly large in neutral medium, air of acid-base stability, and the carbon in the 2000 ° no reaction, and iron material at 1200 ° C to 1300 ° C doesn't response, suitable for cutting ferrous metal materials.
4, good thermal conductivity
The thermal conductivity is 79.54W/(m·K), which is second only to diamond, but much higher than that of hard alloy. With the increase of temperature, the thermal conductivity of PCBN tool increases gradually, so the heat at the tip can be quickly transmitted. Conducive to the improvement of workpiece processing accuracy.
5, lower friction coefficient
The coefficient of friction between CBN and different materials is between 0.1 and 0.3, which is much lower than the friction coefficient of cemented carbide (0.4 to 0.6), and slightly decreases with the increase of friction speed and positive pressure. The low friction coefficient and excellent anti-adhesive ability make it difficult for PCBN tools to form a retaining layer or built-up edge when cutting, which is beneficial to the improvement of the surface quality.
