Summary
vacuum filters is a high capacity vacuum filter for maximum product throughput at minimum footprint requirement. With up to 10 parallel discs with a diameter of up to 4.0 m the filtration area can be up to about 200 m² in one machine resulting in minimum installation costs. Hydraulically optimized filter components, including the sectors, the center barrel and the control valve in combination with the 20 sector/20 channel design the performance of the filter is outstanding.
A vacuum filter is consists of 1. discs, 2. discharging device, 3. Center barrel, 4. main drive device, 5. distributing head, 6. blender, 7. cloth washing device, 8. central lubrication device, 9. tank, 10. feeding system.
Working principle
1. Cake Formation - An internal valve opens. This allows vacuum to be applied to the underside of the filter screen. The cake starts to form on the part of the drum that is submerged.
2. Cake Drying - As the drum rotates out of the slurry, the drying portion of the cycle begins. Vacuum continues to be applied in order to create the pressure differential necessary to remove the filtrate.
3. Cake Discharge - An internal valve is used to close off the vacuum at this point. The discharge mechanism can be either a scraper, belt, roll or string. Compressed air can be used to help remove the cake from the filter screen.
Operation
Suspension feedThe suspension is fed continuously into the trough and flows in the same direction as the rotating filter discs. Each filter disc is divided into 20-36 cells. The rotation speed is adjustable to process needs between 0.1-6 rpm in a ratio of 1:10. Up to 50% of the total surface area submerges into the suspension. The feed level in the trough is kept constant by weir plate or level regulation.
FiltrationA vacuum is created in the segment-shaped filter cells, which are covered with a filter bag. The liquor filters through the filter cloth, while the solid matter forms a filter cake of uniform thickness on the filter cloth and emerges from the trough on the disc.
Filtrate dischargeThe ANDRITZ VSF vacuum disc filter is designed with one common filtrate pipe for each segment row. For the vacuum disc filter, all cells are provided with a separate filtrate pipe ending in the sealing plate. In both types, the filtrate flows along the control valve face and the control valve head to the receiver, which is connected to the vacuum pump.
Solids washingAfter emerging from the trough, the filter cake can be washed gently by a special washing assembly. Due to the separate chambers in the control head, the wash filtrate can be separated from the mother filtrate.
Solids dischargeAs the disc filter rotates, the cake is dried by removing the liquid and discharged from the cloth at the end of this zone by means of compressed air. The cake then drops into the discharge chute.
ControlThe functions – filtering, washing, suction-drying, solids discharge and filter cloth restoring – are performed succession during one revolution of the disc. The control valve face determines the division of the disc into zones.
