VVRS Dressed Grains - Oats
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Oats are widely grown throughout Australia for stock feed and are available in two forms, with or without hulls. Dehulled oats (or groats) have a considerably higher feeding value than whole oats (with hulls).
VVRS OATS are prepared using minimum 42lb/hl quality oats, machine dressed and quality guaranteed.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
• The high fibre content limits the use of whole oats in pig and poultry diets. It is advised that no more than 40 percent whole oats be included in diets for growing pigs 20 to 50 kg liveweight. Meanwhile the level in diets for finisher pigs should not exceed 60 percent.
• For growing chickens an upper level of whole oats of 30 percent of the diet is advised and for layers 50 percent of the diet.
• In all diets the whole oats should be ground and mixed with other grains.
• Ground dehulled oats can be used as the sole cereal in diets for both pigs and poultry and have been used extensively overseas as the main component in creep and early weaner pig diets. However, it is advisable to mix the oats with other grains.
• Whole oats can be used as the sole grain in diets for horses and ruminant feeds.
LIMITATIONS
WHOLE OATS Must be ground for feeding to pigs and poultry. Can be fed whole to horses, sheep and cattle.
DEHULLED OATS
• None.
• Advisable to mix with other grains.
DELETERIOUS SUBSTANCES
