Overview
ZTE aims to provide competitive telecommunication equipment and solutions for customers, builds and launches the distributed Software Defined Radio (SDR) solution of Base Band Unit (BBU) & Remote Radio Unit (RRU). The ZXSDR B8200 and eRRU make up the complete eNodeB to achieve wireless transmission in coverage regions and control of wireless channels.
The ZXSDR B8200 is a multi-mode BBU, which is based on the ZTE SDR platform. It can support GSM/UMTS/TD-SCDMA/LTE FDD/TD-LTE single-mode or multi-mode by software upgrade, to adapt to operators’ low-cost strategy of Long Term Evolution Product Highlights
Large Capacity
The ZXSDR B8200 supports at most four baseband boards. The new TD-LTE baseband board supports 6 x 2-antenna 20MHz cells, 3 x 4-antenna cells or 3 x 8-antena 20MHz cell, completely meeting the capacity requirements of the TD-LTE system and thus leading the industry.
Mature and Stable Performance
The ZXSDR B8200 adopts ZTE’s unified Software Defined Ratio (SDR) platform, which was released in October 2008. The SDR platform has been applied in several large scale commercial projects of CDMA, GSM, UMTS, TD-SCDMA and LTE products. Excellent performance has proved its maturity and stability. The ZXSDR B8200 can fully satisfy the multi-standard, multi-frequency and low-TCO requirements of operators.
On September 30, 2008, ZTE SDR 8000 series products won InfoVision Award at the Broadband World Forum (BBWF) Europe.
Smooth Evolution of the Existing Network
The baseband boads of ZXSDR B8200 uses the same architecture as other systems, which enables hardware sharing and supports software upgrade. As baseband boards of different systems can be used simultaneously, the smooth evolution of the existing network is supported, protecting operators’ network investment while facilitaing system upgrade, expansion and evolution.
Unified Hardware Platform Enabling Scalability
ZTE’s SDR platform used by the ZXSDR B8200 allows LTE, WiMAX, GSM and CDMA to use the same main control board. This platform has achieved large-scale commercialization in GSM, UMTS, TD-SCDMA, CDMA and LTE products. On Sep 30, 2008, ZTE’s SDR 8000 series base stations won InfoVision Award issued by IEC at the BBWF Europe 2008 for its product innovations.
Based on the unified hardware platform, the baseband boards can be configured flexibly in practice to support multi-mode applications through smooth expansion.
Abundant Interfaces Enabling Flexible Networking
Open Radio equipment Interfaces (ORIs) support 6.144G optical interfaces. The number of ORIs reaches 18. The ORI supports GE optical interfaces and GE electrical interfaces at full rates and supports synchronization to IEEE1588v2 to achieve flexible All-IP Architecture Enabling Flexible Networking
Based on the All-IP-based hierarchy, the ZXSDR B8200 provides GE/FE interfaces and supports star, chain or hybrid networking with Remote Radio Units (RRUs) to achieve cross-area networking and expansion, greatly slashing the engineering cost. The ZXSDR B8200 can meet various network construction requirements in different conditions and meet various transmission scenarios.
Compact Design Enabling Easy Deployment
The ZXSDR B8200 adopts standard Micro TCA platform, with 2U in height, 19 inches in width and only 197 mm in depth. It has a low requirement on space but a high requirement on environmental adaptability.
The ZXSDR B8200 can be easily installed into a standard 19-inch rack. It can also be mounted on a wall with a minimal space requirement to improve the possibility of co-site with 2G and 3G equipments.

The key boards support redundant backup configuration to improve system reliability.
Functionality of the ZXSDR B8200
As a multi-mode compact BBU, the ZXSDR B8200 provides S1 and X2 interfaces, clock synchronization, baseband processing and the RRU interface functions to achieve internal communication and data exchange.
