Drying treatment: PMMA is hygroscopic so drying before processing is a must. The recommended drying condition is 90C for 2 to 4 hours.
Melting temperature: 240~270C. Mold temperature: 35~70C.
Injection speed: Medium
Chemical and physical properties PMMA has excellent optical properties and weather resistance. The penetration of white light is as high as 92%. PMMA products have very low birefringence, especially suitable for the production of video discs. PMMA has room temperature creep characteristics. With the increase of load and time, stress cracking can be caused. PMMA has good impact resistance.

Polymethylmethacrylate (Acrylic for short PMMA, English Acrylic), also known as acrylic or acrylic, is commonly called Agalite glue in Hong Kong. It has the advantages of high transparency, low price, easy machining, etc. It is a commonly used glass replacement material.
The monomer of polymethyl methacrylate is methyl methacrylate (MMA, acrylic monomer).
Excellent transparency, outstanding aging resistance; Its specific gravity is less than half of ordinary glass, but the resistance to fragmentation is several times higher; It has good insulation and mechanical strength; Strong corrosion resistance to acid, alkali and salt; And easy to process; It can be bonded, saw, planing, drilling, engraving, grinding, screen printing, sandblasting and other manual and mechanical processing. After heating, it can be bent into a variety of acrylic products.
Physical property
Because of its larger branch chain, the viscosity of polymethyl methacrylate is higher, so the processing speed is relatively slow in the use of thermal processing method, organic glass can not only be used for lathe cutting, drilling machine drilling, and can be used to bond into various shapes of acetone, chloroform and other instruments, can also be used to blow molding, injection, extrusion and other plastic molding method processing into large aircraft seat cover, Everything from dentures to dentures.
Cyanoacrylates, methylene chloride, or chloroform can dissolve plexiglass slightly, and two pieces of plexiglass can then be firmly bonded together.
It takes about 2 kilograms of oil to produce 1 kilogram of PMMA. In the aerobic case, PMMA begins to burn at 460°C to produce carbon dioxide, water, carbon monoxide, and a number of low molecular compounds, including formaldehyde.
Process conditions of injection mold
1. The density of PMMA is lower than that of glass: the density of PMMA is about 1150-1190 kg/m3, half of that of glass (2400-2800 kg/m3);
2. Light weight of PMMA: the density of PMMA is 1.19g/cm3, and the weight of the material of the same size is only half of that of ordinary glass and 43% of that of aluminum (a light metal).
3.PMMA mechanical strength is high: the relative molecular mass of organic glass is about 2 million, is a long chain of polymer compounds, and the formation of molecular chain is very soft, therefore, the strength of organic glass is relatively high, tensile resistance and impact resistance than ordinary glass 7 ~ 18 times higher. One type of plexiglass is heated and stretched so that the molecular segments are arranged in such an order that the material's toughness is significantly improved. A nail is driven into this kind of plexiglass, and even if the nail goes through, there will be no crack in the plexiglass. This plexiglass will not break into pieces when pierced by a bullet. As a result, stretched plexiglass can be used as bulletproof glass and also as hatches on military aircraft.
4. The melting point of PMMA is low: the melting point of PMMA is about 130 -- 140 °C (265 -- 285 °F), which is much lower than the high temperature of glass of about 1000 degrees.
5.PMMA has high transmittance
6. Visible light: PMMA is the best transparent polymer material at present, with a transmittance of 92%, higher than that of glass [1].
7. Ultraviolet light: Quartz penetrates UV completely, but is expensive. Ordinary glass penetrates only 0.6% of UV light, but PMMA penetrates 73%. PMMA does not filter ultraviolet (UV) light. Uv light penetrates PMMA, and some manufacturers [2] coating the surface of PMMA to increase its UV filtering effect and properties. On the other hand, PMMA is more stable than polycarbonate under ultraviolet light
8. Infrared: PMMA allows infrared light less than 2800nm to pass through. Longer wavelength IR, less than 25,000nm, can be basically blocked. Special colored PMmas exist that allow specific wavelengths of IR to pass through while blocking visible light (for remote control or thermal applications, etc.).
