Volcker VOK ®- AP 420 rheological thickener has extremely high thickening effect in the medium shear range, and has excellent pigment anti sedimentation, anti sagging and good leveling properties.

Joining method

Recommended VOK ®- AP 420 is added at the final stage of the recipe. In most cases, VOK ®- AP 420 can be added directly without dilution or pre neutralization. However, under slow mixing conditions, the manufacturer recommends using water or diluting first.

VOK ®- AP 420 shall be fully mixed into the paint to ensure it becomes a uniform system and prevent local cementation. The final pH of the system shall be 9.0. To achieve the highest (efficiency) viscosity, the pH value in the high gloss paint system should not be lower than 8.0.

Some systems already contain enough alkalinity to neutralize VOK ®- AP 420, if not, basic raw materials such as ethanolamine should be added.

In coatings, it is necessary to increase the solid content of abrasive to achieve the most appropriate pigment content without adding thickener to the abrasive.
