Papain is a protein-cleaving enzyme derived from unripe papaya and certain other plants. Enzymes are complex molecules produced in living organisms to catalyze (speed up) chemical reactions within the cell. The papain has strong biological activity and the decomposing ability of protein. It can incorporate any of a wide variety of enzymes and increase the rate of biological changes such as the ripening of fruit. At the end of enzyme catalysed reaction the enzyme itself is unchanged and is able to react again. Hence it can help to stimulate protein synthesis and repair.
