Since the rollers of cylindrical roller bearings make line contact with the raceways, these bearings can sopport heavey radial loads and are suitable for high speed operation. Cylindrical roller bearings come in various configurations as shown in the dimensional table.The rollers are guided by collars of either the inner or outer ring.

Since NU and N type bearings are not provided with a collar on the inner or outer ring, the inner and outer ring can float axially relative to the other under an axial load.These bearings are most suitable for use on the free side of the shaft. Bearing type NJ,NUP, and NF having collar rings on both the inner and outer ring and can receive a certain amount of axial load. These bearing types are sometimes used on the fixed side of  the shafts.

Since cylindrical roller bearings are seperable, they can easily be mounted or dismounted in cases when interference fits are required.

This cylindrical roller bearing with a polyamide/nylon cage and removable inner ring is suitable for applications that support high radial loads. A removable inner ring in the open bearing allows application of lubrication. The polyamide/nylon cage prevents the rollers from coming into contact with each other during use to reduce friction, vibration, and noise and weighs less and is quieter than cages made of brass.

Cylindrical roller bearings are used in applications where high radial loads are present such as in conveyer belts, traction motors, railway car axle boxes, and oilfield mud pumps, among others.

Roller or rolling bearings use rolling elements to maintain the separation between moving parts to reduce rotational friction and support radial and axial loads. They are usually composed of two rings, rolling bodies (such as bearings or cylinders), and a cage to house the parts. These elements can be one of the following types: ball, cylindrical, spherical, barrel, needle, spindle, or tapered. Rolling bearings can be open, shielded, or sealed. Sealed bearings are lubricated with oil or grease in the bearing factory, while open and shielded bearings are meant to be lubricated in place, with periodic reapplication of lubrication, based on use. The shield protects the working parts of the bearing from environmental debris that may be introduced and could reduce the ball bearing speed and lifespan. Rolling bearings are used in a range of applications from agricultural machinery to conveying equipment, robotics, dental equipment, elevators, rolling mills, ship rudder shafts, and aggregate crushers, among others.

This type of bearings is separable. As their rollers linearly come into contact with inner ring and outer ring with less coefficient of friction, these bearings have very good capacity of radial load, suitable for electric motors, automobiles, transmission shafts, gear shafts and so on.

cylindrical roller bearings with cage are units comprising solid inner and outer rings together with cylindrical roller and cage assemblies. The outer rings have rigid ribs on both sides or no ribs, the inner rings have one or two rigid ribs or are designed without ribs. The cage prevents the cylindrical rollers from coming into contact with each other during rolling.

The cage type bearings are very rigid, can support high radial loads and, due to the cage, are suitable for higher speeds than the full complement designs. Bearings with the suffix E have a higher capacity roller set and are thus designed for very high load carrying capacity.
