ounded in July 2014, Gansu Alkog Sea-buckthorn Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. lies in Zhang County Industrial Park covering an area of 13500 m2. Now it has more than 100 employees and more than 20 million yuan of fixed assets. It has advanced CO2 above-critical sea-buckthorn oil extraction plant and perfect quality control and inspection means, and is a high tech enterprise incorporating production and sales. As a subordinate enterprise managed by the Water Resources Department of Shaanxi Province, the Company has cooperated with the Government of Wuqi County, Shaanxi, to build a production base with an area of 200 mu for seabuckthorn, resulting in adequate supply of raw materials. In northern Shaanxi where the base is, the climate and soil are very suitable for growing seabuckthorn, which tends to yield high-quality fruits that are big, plum, natural, green and pollution-free. (Northern Shaanxi belongs to the temperate continental monsoon climate zone and westerlies with abundant sunshine, distinct seasons, variable climate, big temperature difference, drought and rare rain.)

• Product description

Seabuckthorn is a medicinal food containing vitamins, trace elements, amino acids and other biologically active substances. With a long history of more than two hundred million years on earth, this plant can survive in the harsh environment of the desert and alpine mountains. It is the only plant growing in the area of feldspathic sandstone called the cancer of the Earth, a plant growing in pollute-free environment and called the VC King in the world of plants. It is the most ecologically valuable in the large-scale development of the western region in China. It is recorded in Chinese Pharmacopoeia and pharmacopoeias in other parts of the world, and recognized as a medicinal and edible plant by the China’s Ministry of Health.

Seabuckthorn is a collective name for the plant and its fruit. Belonging to Elaeagnaceae Hippophae, it is a deciduous shrub with characteristics such as drought tolerance, anti-sandstorm, and the ability to survive salinized land, so it is widely used for soil and water conservation. It is distributed in the north, northwest, southwest and other places of China. Seabuckthorn is a medicinal and edible plant. Seabuckthorn’s root, stem, leaf, flower, fruit (especially, fruit is rich in nutrients and bioactive substances) can be widely used in many areas of the national economy, e.g. food, medicine, light industry, aerospace, agriculture, animal husbandry and fishery. Seabuckthorn’s fruit is medicinally effective in treating cough and phlegm, appetite and digestion, and blood stasis. Modern medical research shows that seabuckthorn can lower cholesterol, relieve angina attack, prevent and treat coronary atherosclerotic heart disease.

• Pharmacological Effect

The seed has fatty acids, such as palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid, linolenic acid. Non-saponified substances include zeaxanthin, cryptoxanthin, alpha-, gamma-, and δ-carotenes, sitosterol, β-sitosterol can-of β -D-glucoside, and phosphatide. The peel has serotonin and glucofrangulin. The leaf has ascorbic acid, dehydroascorbic acid, isorhamnetin, and carotene. The root bark has alkaloids, and the root nodule contains hemin.

For seabuckthorn, one of the most valuable parts of it is its oil, which contains 206 kinds of active substances beneficial to humans, including 46 kinds of biologically active substances. The oil also has large amounts of vitamin E, vitamin A and flavonoids. Relevant therapeutic effects are being anti-fatigue and anticancer plus energetic; protecting and accelerating the repair of gastric mucosa, enhancing the potency of intestinal bifidobacteria, lowering cholesterol in plasma and blood vessel wall; preventing and treating hyperlipidemia and atherosclerotic sclerosis, and heling wound heal.
