XIMENIA AMERICANA The seed and fruit pulp contain hydro-cyanic acid. The oil is used to daub on hair as a shampoo. The maternal African lineage has maintained the philosophy through the ages of maintaining health by using the abundant natural resources, steeped in nutritional and medicinal properties.

Chemical composition: Cyanogenic substance such as cyanogenic glucosides, f1uoracetate or tannins which may considerably reduce their nutritive value or even toxic to animal.

Uses:The oily kernel is used as pomade to anointthe hair and body.Edible oil-60%.The pale yellow oil kis viscious and non­drying and can be filtered and clarified. Suitable for lubrication and soap making. Some active components of Ximenia Americana piant has been used to treat cancers in African traditional medicine. Used in Cote d'ivoire as traditional remedy for bacterial diseases:active against Gram negative (Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and Gram positive (Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Streptococcus pyogenes and Bacillus subtilis) bacteria.
