Detailed

Rhodiola comprises several species of plants in the Crassulacea family and is generally found in the arctic mountain regions of Siberia. The perennial plant grows in areas up to 2280 meters elevation. Several shoots grow from the same thick root. Shoots may reach 5 to 35 cm in height. The root of the plant is used medicinally and is also known as "Arctic root" or "Golden root" and more recently as “Crinoline”. Rhodiola has been used for hundreds of years to treat cold and flu-like symptoms, promote longevity and increase the body’s resistance to physical and mental stresses. Rhodiola is typically considered to be an “adaptogen” and is believed to invigorate the body and mind to increase resistance to a multitude of stresses. The key active constituents in Rhodiola are believed to be rosavin, rosarin, rosin and salidroside. 

[Activity]

1. It is mainly used as increasing physical endurance, working productivity, longevity, resistancing to high altitude sickness, and treating fatigue, depression, anemia, impotence, amenorrhea, headaches, hypertension, insomnia, gastrointestinal ailments, infections, tuberculosis, cancer and nervous system disorders;

2. Rhodiola is cardio-protective, normalizing the heart rate immediately after intense exercise;

3. It improves the nervous system and mental functions such as memory, by increasing blood-supply to the muscles and brain, and it also increases protein synthesis;

4. Rhodiola rosea has higher anti-cancer and anti-depressive activities;

5. Rhodiola rosea was found to help prevent stress induced cardiac damage.
