Stevia rebaudiana which is an herb, originated from the Guarani Indians of Paraguay for more than a century all ready. This plant has several names including Caa'-ehe, Kaa'-he-E or Ca-a-yupe- which all mean the honey leaf or sweet leaf. This herb is widely used and popular in South America as

yerba dulce which means “sweet herb.”

The most obvious and notable characteristic of the stevia extract is its sweet taste which is not derived from carbohydrate-based molecules, but due to several non-caloric molecules known as glycosides. Individuals, who are sweetener or sugar intolerant, can use stevia as an alternative sweetener.
