Physiological Functions
White Fungus is rich in dietary fiber. Water insoluble fiber helps promote soft, bulky stools. Water soluble fiber forms a gel-like material which coats the gastric tract, delays glucose absorption and lowers cholesterol.Four tablets of White Fungus contain about 1 gram of both kinds of dietary fiber to supplement your dietary fiber intake from daily meals. Traditional Chinese women, including the legendary beauty Yang Guifei, have been taking White Fungus to make their skin moist, soft and pliable. According to traditional Chinese medicine White Fungus nourishes the lung, stomach and kidney, strengthens the bones, helps maintain ideal weight and provides proper moisturization to the skin which belongs to the lung network. Hyaluronic acid is a carbohydrate that occurs naturally in various parts of human body. In the skin tissue it helps retain the skin's natural moisture, hence it is used in skin-care products as a good water-binding agent.A polysaccharide contained in White Fungus has an excellent water holding capacity. It can hold water equivalent to nearly 500 times its weight, which is greater than hyaluronic acid. When the polysaccharide from White Fungus was applied to skin topically for 4 weeks, the water holding capacity of the skin and horny layer was greatly improved. The effect of oral administration of White Fungus to skin is yet to be studied. However, it has a long tradition of dietary use by the Chinese people for this purpose.
