Tai Ping Hou Kui Tea, also named Monkey King Tea, is China’s historical famous tea, and is mainly growing at altitudes of up to 700 meters around the small village of Hou Keng in Tai Ping County, Anhui Province.
The tea can only be picked for 2 weeks a year. The tea producers pick large leaves which are 7 to 15 cm in length. Once picked, the leaves are fired to kill the oxidizing enzymes, and pressed between cloth, which has to be done by hand, and then fully dried in an oven.
The processed tea leaves are long and thin in deep green and have red veins underneath. The best Tai Ping Hou Kui tea has a wonderful flavor with hints of the aroma of orchid blossoms and leaves a sweet and long lasting aftertaste.
