Extractive metallurgy has been defined as the science and art of extracting metals from their ores, refining them and preparing them for use. Within extractive metallurgy, the major divisions in the order they may most commonly occur are, Mineral Processing (or Beneficiation), Hydrometallurgy, Pyrometallurgy, and Electrometallurgy. The last steps in the winning of metals are in Physical Metallurgy where the composition and treatment of metals are varied to provide desired physical and mechanical properties.

In mineral processing, a number of unit operations are required to prepare and classify ores before the valuable constituents can be separated or concentrated and then forwarded on for use or further treatment. The field of mineral processing has also been given other titles such as mineral dressing, ore dressing, mineral extraction, mineral beneficiation, and mineral engineering. These terms are often used interchangeably.
Mineral processing equipments:
The equipments of mineral processing include vibrating feeder, crusher, ball mill, classifier, vibrating screen, rocking bed, magnetic separator, mix tank, flotation machine and so on. The specific mineral processing flow is as follows: The extracted ore should be crushed by jaw crusher initially. When it gets the reasonable fineness, it is transported into ball mill by elevating conveyer and feeder, and is milled by ball mill. The subtle milled ore gets the next procedure: classification. There is a theory that if the weights of solid particles are different, the sedimentations will be different, and the mixed ore can be classified by screw classifier. The classified ore gets into magnetic separator. Since the specific magnetization coefficients of ores are different, the magnetic substance of mixed ore is separated from others with magnetic and mechanical force. The mineral matter, which has been separated by magnetic separator initially, is transported into flotation machine by, and different medicines are added according to different characteristics of ore, so that the needed ore is separated from others. Since the separated ore are wet, they should be dewatered by thickner initially, and dried by drier. Finally, the dry minerals come into being.
Overview
Zinc Lead And Graphite Ore Dressing Equipments . Hematite is weak magnetic. And it contains mainly Fe2O3. The normal chemical composition of hematite is Fe2O3, Fe3O4, SiO2, Al2O3 and so on. Based on the test report of ore provided by customer, we designed this hematite dressing technics: three stages crushing----one stage milling----two stages magnetic separation----dehydration----final product. Using this technics, we can improve the Fe content from 40% up to 65%. And the ferric oxides recovery ratio is about 80%.
Crushing and milling
Ensure the quality of raw material. And the size of ore rock should be no bigger than 400mm. The first stage and second stage we use PE jaw crusher and PEX jaw crusher. third stage we use a double roller crusher to reduce the rock size to smaller than 10mm. We use three stages crushing to reduce the size of rock as smaller as possible. In that way, milling the ore into required fineness, 150-200 mesh, is much easier. At the end of ball mill, the milling stage, there is a screen through which the qualified ore slurry can pass through. The slurry is then sent to a magnetic separator to pick out the magnetic part of the slurry.
Magnetic Separation
After milling, the qualified slurry runs into firs stage magnetic separator, magnetic density 3500Gauss. This machine can pick out Fe3O4 out of the slurry and then Fe3O4 is sent to the concentrated ore pool. We use a high gradient magnetic separator in the second stage separation to pick out Fe2O3, which is weak magnetic. The picked our slurry is sent to the concentrated ore pool. Then we use a pump pull the slurry into a disc type filter to dehydrate. The output of the filter is final product and water which can recycle. The final product contains about 5% moisture. It can be stored for further usage.
