1. Summary
Wastewater from machine shop, processing metallic material such as iron, steel and non-ferrous metals, consists of waste cutting oil, waste coolant and waste degreasing solution used to wash machined parts. In addition, included in wastewater from machine shop are wastewater from quenching, plating and painting lines. However, main ingredient of the said wastewater is still oil-containing wastewater such as waste cutting oil, waste coolant and waste degreasing solution. Oil-containing wastewater can be basically classified by oil concentration into two types. One is concentrated wastewater including waste cutting oil, waste coolant and waste degreasing solution, etc. Other one is diluted wastewater such as waste rinsing water form degreasing line, etc. which contains a low concentration of oil. Wastewater treatment method, best suiting to the nature of wastewater, can be selected from various treatment methods.
2. Type and Feature
1) FKK UF Membrane Separation Equipment
(For treatment of concentrated wastewater such as waste cutting oil, waste coolant and waste degreasing solution.)
Though the above-mentioned concentrated wastewater, containing oil by more than 3%, can be chemically treated (coagulation) for oil removal, there are such problem as large chemical consumption, large sludge generation volume. In some cases, the disposal of sludge becomes difficult due to its high oil content. FKK UF membrane separation equipment needs no chemical to add, and can separate oil form water by passing raw wastewater through UF membrane. Oil concentration can be concentrated up to 30% or above which is high enough to be easily combusted. While, oil content of filtrate can be reduced down to 3-20 mg/l. The equipment is simply constructed with such major component as pump and membrane. The features of the equipment are as follows: (1) Operation and management are simple and safe due to no use of chemicals.
(2) No sludge is generated.
(3) Small installation space (1m×1.5m for a 5 m3/d unit)
(4) Ordinal concentrated wastewater can be further concentrated 10 times or above.
(5) For standard units with a treatment capacity of 20 l/d to 5 m3/d, no work (civil, piping works, etc.) is required at the place of installation site.
(6) Membrane, best suiting to the nature of wastewater, can be selected.
(7) Equipment, hardly requiring washing, can be manufactured.

2) FKK Integrated Wastewater Treatment Equipment
(For integrated wastewater treatment of diluted oil-containing wastewater)
With coagulating flotation equipment used as main treatment equipment, also employed as required are biological COD and BOD treatment and also advanced treatment, if required, by activated carbon adsorption and ozone oxidation. For the combined treatment of concentrated oil-containing wastewater and other types of wastewater specific to each plant, rational and integrated wastewater treatment systems can realized by providing pretreatment (including the above mentioned UF) best suiting to the nature of wastewater.
