Line type Gapless Polymer Thunder Arrester

1. Definition:

Line type Gapless Polymer Thunder Arrester is a protective device designed primarily for connection between a conductor of an electrical system and ground to limit the magnitude of transient overvoltages on equipment. Also known as arrester; lightning arrester.

2. Classification (types of lightning arrester):

1.       Arresters in series compensation installations are connected in parallel to large banks in order to increase the energy absorption capability

2.       Arresters in the HVDC transmission.

3.       Special types of applications, such as protection of transformer neutrals or tertiary windings will be dealt with.

3. Construction:  

The metal oxide resistor column, together with the accompanying supporting construction comprises the active part of the Line type Gapless Polymer Thunder Arrester. The metal oxide varistors used in the arresters provide high energy absorption and low residual voltages. Multiple high current lightning and low duration switching surges are absorbed without noticeable changes in the arrester characteristics or stability.
