Panpaliya present a specialized range of pure cotton quilts, which is popular as Kantha Quilts 'patchwork kantha pattern'. This is handmade work and involves laborious work. It takes nearly a week to complete one such cotton kantha work but the end result is not only pure ecstasy but is an exemplary example of the quality and finish that our artisans have to offer. These are invaluable embroidered and hand worked pieces that are priced competitively. The quilts are traditionally made by women in poorer communities with limited resources. In West Bengal, where one of our partner organizations, New Light, is based, these quilts are called kantha quilts. This colourful quilt has been handmade in India from up-cycled saris. Kantha quilts are made from layers of saris sewn together with a tiny running stitch known as a kantha stitch. Extra embroidery is often added, and you will never find two vintage quilts that are the same. Use as a throw, bed cover, picnic blanket or table cloth. They can also be used in your interior design projects to make curtains, blinds and cushions and to cover headboards, footstools or chairs.

Each side of a vintage kantha is made from a different sari or sections of sari.Vintage kanthas are a handmade product, the pattern and stitching can be irregular and tiny patches are often added to the quilts.

 

Vintage Kantha quilts are made from vintage sari's, pieced together and then stitched all over with running stitch. Each one is unique and has different colours and patterns on either side.
