Established as the state-owned Shanghai Metal Materials Company, with the business purpose of manufacturing hot rolled steel and cold rolled steel, hardware, and agricultural accessories.

Investment through UK Anglo Investment Co., Ltd, began the production of steel pipes.
---2000---
Investment through Taiwan Minchali Co., Ltd and Taiwan Gongcheng Metal Co., Ltd, began the production of copper strips, copper foil.
---2001---
Began production in the areas of copper tubing, brass tubing, and stainless steel products.
---2003---
Renamed the state-owned Shanghai Metal Materials Company to Shanghai Metal Corporation, and started new production lines of galvanized steel coil, PPGI, PPGL.
---2004---
Established SMC (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd, and began the sale of aluminum products.
