Sodium is more than 500 time more abundant than lithium,which is available in a few countries. Lithium-ion batteries are made of scare and pricey elements such as cobalt and lithium.
The bill of material for a sodium-ion cell is about one-third cheaper than an equivalent one made from lithium ion.
2, Lower Temperature performance is better.
Na-ion batteries also perform well at as low as -20 ºC
The normal discharging temperature range is -40 ºC -80 ºC , and the capacity retention ration rate can reach 80% at -40 ºC , but lithium ion battery working voltage range is -20ºC~60ºC . Lithium ion battery must be charged above 0ºC , but the present sodium ion battery can charge at -10ºC ,with the improvement of the technology, it is hoped that charging at -20ºC.
3,Better Rate Character.
The 4C and even 6C characteristics of sodium-ion batteries are relatively stable, and they can basically discharge 100% of their power under 4C conditions.
4,Much Safer than lithium ion battery.
5, Super Fast Charge: At normal temperature, sodium ion battery can be charged to 80% in 15 minutes at the fastest, but lithium ion battery fastest charge current is 1C(around 1 hour theoretically) if no charging management system.
6,No over-discharge: the positive electrode can be discharged to 0V without affecting use, making the battery safer during storage and transportation. But for lithium ion battery, if over discharge happened, it may damage the internal structure, and will destroy the reversibility of the positive and negative active materials and cannot be fully restored even after charging, resulting in significant attenuation of battery capacity.
