Plug valve is a valve which uses the plug with through hole as the opening and closing parts. The plug rotates with the valve stem to realize the opening and closing action. Since the movement between the sealing faces of the plug valve has the action of wiping, and when it is fully opened, it can completely prevent contact with the flowing medium, so it can also be used for the medium with suspended particles. Another important feature of the plug valve is that it is easy to adapt to the multi-channel structure, so that one valve can obtain two, three or even four different flow channels, which reduce the amount of valves and some connecting accessories needed in the equipment, so it simplifies the design of the piping system; In order to expand the application range of plug valve, many new structures have been developed. Oil lubricated plug valve is an important one. The special grease is injected between the taper hole and the plug from the top of the plug to form an oil film to reduce the opening and closing torque and improve the sealing performance and service life. Its working pressure can reach 1500LB, its working temperature can reach 325 ℃, and its diameter can reach 36”(900mm). There are many kinds of channels for plug valves. The common straight through type is mainly used to cut off the fluid. Three way and four-way plug valves are suitable for fluid reversing.

Plug valve types: 

According to the structure, plug valve can be divided into four types: tight set plug valve, self sealing plug valve, oil injection type plug valve.

According to the channel form, it can be divided into straight through plug valve, three-way plug valve and four-way plug valve.

Soft seal plug valve: 

Soft seal plug valve is often used in harsh environment, such as corrosive and high hazardous medium, strictly prohibited from leaking, and where the valve material will not pollute the medium.

Oil lubricated hard seal plug valve: 

Oil lubricated hard seal plug valve can be divided into conventional oil lubricated plug valve and pressure balance type plug valve.

Conventional oil lubricated plug valve: the installation method of plug cone is normal installation. In order to reduce the friction between the valve body and the sealing surface of the plug, the valve usually adopts the sealing structure of lubricating: the valve seat with sealing grease. The high-pressure sealing oil injected from the high-pressure oil nozzle forms a high-pressure sealing ring around the plug, that is, there is an oil film between the sealing surface of the valve body and the cone of the plug, which can be closed and lubricated, and can be opened and closed easily.

Pressure balance type plug valve: The installation method of the plug cone of the pressure balance type plug valve is inverted installation. There is a check valve in the upper part of the plug cone. When the valve is closed, due to the difference between the upper and lower cross-sectional areas of the plug cone, the injected high-pressure sealing oil makes the plug body subject to upward lifting force, so that the sealing surface of the plug and the valve can be better sealed. At the moment of opening the valve, the pressure in the lower chamber of the valve body is balanced with the medium pressure of the pipeline. The high-pressure sealing oil in the upper chamber makes the plug subject to downward thrust, resulting in a small gap between the plug cone and the sealing surface of the valve body, and the torque when the plug is rotated will be effectively reduced. It can also protect the sealing surface.
