PI, commonly known as Polyimide in Chinese, is an aromatic heterocyclic polymer compound with a molecular structure containing an imide chain section, and its English name is Polyimide(abbreviated as PI). It can be divided into four categories: homobenzene PI, soluble PI, polyamide-imide (PAI) and polyethereimide (PEI).


Introduction to PI Plastic Materials

PI is the engineering plastics in the heat resistance of plastic raw materials in one of the best varieties, some varieties can long-term under 290 ℃ high temperature short time under the high temperature of 490 ℃, and mechanical properties, fatigue resistance, fire resistance, dimension stability, electric performance is good, molding shrinkage of small, they can withstand oil, acid and organic solvent, alkali resistant, has excellent resistance to friction and abrasion performance.


PI plastic raw material characteristics

1, mechanical properties, good fatigue resistance, good self-lubricity; The tensile strength of the polyimide film can reach 170 MPa for the homobenzene type and 400MPa for the biphenyl type

2, wear resistance, friction coefficient is small and not affected by wet, temperature, high impact strength, but sensitive to notch.

3, excellent heat resistance, can be in -260 (not brittle) ~ 330oC long-term use, thermal deformation temperature up to 343oC.

4, good radiation resistance, no cold flow, no cracking, excellent electrical insulation, flame retardant.

5, small shrinkage, linear expansion coefficient, good dimensional stability, low water absorption.

6, good chemical stability, ozone resistance, bacterial erosion resistance, good solubility, but vulnerable to alkali, pyridine and other erosion

PI plastic raw material application field

PI materials are used in aviation, automotive, electronic and electrical appliances, industrial machinery and other aspects. They can be used as engine fuel supply system parts, jet engine components, compressor and generator parts, fasteners, splines joints and electronic connectors, and automobile engine parts, bearings, piston sleeves, timing gears. In the electronic industry, it does printed circuit boards, insulation materials, heat-resistant cables, terminal posts, sockets, and in the mechanical industry, it does high-temperature self-lubricating bearings, compressor blades and piston machines, sealing rings, equipment heat shields, thrust washers, bushings, etc. High temperature self-lubricating bearings, compressor piston rings, tobacco machinery accessories, printer automation accessories, gripper, gasket, sleeve and other fields.

 

Polyimides are classified as follows:

Dupont Vespel is the most typical representative of polyimide (PI) plastic series.

Vespel-sp1 (brown) : Basic specification with highest mechanical strength and electrical properties.

Vespel-sp21 (black) : 15% graphite filled specification to provide wear characteristics and heat resistance.

VESPEL-SP211 (black) : The lowest static friction coefficient is obtained by adding 15% graphite and 10%PTFE filling. Suitable for medium temperature environment.

Vespel-sp22 (black) : Add 40% graphite to fill specifications for minimum expansion coefficient and highest creep resistance impedance.

VESPEL-SP3 (black) : 15% molybdenum disulfide filling specification, suitable for vacuum or inert gas friction sliding requirements.
