PI, commonly known as polyimide in Chinese, is an aromatic heterocyclic polymer compound with imide chain links in molecular structure. Its English name is polyimide (PI). It can be divided into four categories: homobenzene PI, soluble PI, polyamide imide (PAI) and polyetherimide (PEI).


Introduction to PI plastic raw materials


PI plastic raw material is one of the varieties with excellent heat resistance in engineering plastics at present. Some varieties can withstand high temperature of 290 ℃ for a long time and 490 ℃ for a short time. In addition, it has good mechanical properties, fatigue resistance, flame retardancy, dimensional stability and electrical properties, small molding shrinkage, oil resistance, general acid and organic solvents, alkali resistance, and excellent friction and wear resistance.


Characteristics of PI plastic raw materials


1. Mechanical properties, good fatigue resistance and good self lubrication; The tensile strength of homobenzene polyimide film can reach 170 MPa and biphenyl polyimide film can reach 400 MPa


2. Wear resistance, low friction coefficient, not affected by humidity and temperature, high impact strength, but sensitive to notch.


3. Excellent heat resistance, can be used for a long time at - 260 (no embrittlement) ~ 330oc, and the thermal deformation temperature is as high as 343oC.


4. Good radiation resistance, no cold flow, no cracking, excellent electrical insulation and flame retardant.


5. Small shrinkage and linear expansion coefficient, good dimensional stability and low water absorption.


6. Good chemical stability, ozone resistance, bacterial corrosion resistance, good solubility, but easy to be eroded by alkali, pyridine, etc

Application field of PI plastic raw materials


PI material is widely used in aviation, automobile, electronics and industrial machinery. DuPont Vespel is a typical representative of polyimide (PI) plastic series.


Vespel-sp1 (brown): Basic specification with extremely high mechanical strength and electrical properties.


Vespel-sp21 (black): add 15% graphite filling specification to provide wear characteristics and heat resistance.


Vespel-sp211 (black): filled with 15% graphite and 10% PTFE, very low static friction coefficient is obtained. Suitable for medium temperature environment.


Vespel-sp22 (black): filled with 40% graphite, with very small expansion coefficient and very high creep resistance.


Vespel-sp3 (black): filled with 15% molybdenum disulfide, suitable for friction and sliding requirements in vacuum or inert gas.
