Perforated Metal Mesh Facades Cladding Project Cases
>>>House-shaped windows puncture perforated metal facades.
Japanese practice Hibinosekkei has completed a nursery in Yokohama, which features plywood-lined interiors and house-shaped openings set into its dark facades.
The 40-year-old building had become dilapidated but its exterior was retained as part of a refurbishment that has altered the interior to incorporate two childcare rooms on each level.
New cladding that wraps around the existing exterior helps to update the aesthetic of the dated building. The metal surface is perforated with a pattern that evokes the constellations of a galaxy.

>>>Pleated shutters enclose cylindrical enamelware museum and cultural centre
Perforated-aluminium screens zigzag around the walls of this cylindrical arts museum.
The perforated plates of white aluminium cladding the circular building, which the architects folded like the pleats of a fan, are intended to block views from the tranquil garden to the interior.
We use perforated aluminium plates folded in a fan-style to create a veil on the facade.
>>>Medical facility in layer of creased metal panels
American Architects has completed a cancer centre in downtown Phoenix with a faceted, copper-coloured screen that evokes the scaly skin of a desert reptile.
Using a palette of glass, metal and stone, the team employed different facade treatments based on the path of the sun. Temperatures in Phoenix regularly climb well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius) in the summertime.
The east and west elevations, which get hit with intense sunlight, are sheathed in a brise-soleil that mitigates heat gain while enabling natural light to enter the building. It is this faceted, orange skin that evokes the scales of a desert reptile.
Perforated copper-coloured panels envelop the building as if to symbolise a protective layer of warmth and healing to those within.
>>>Apartment building with a perforated skin
Perforated steel panels create private enclosures around the balconies that front this compact housing development.
The biggest challenge was to bring enough light into each home without compromising residents' privacy. One of the solutions Moriyama came up with was to create lightwells at the front of the building.
Each of these open-air enclosures is fronted by a screen of perforated metal panels, allowing light and ventilation to filter through, while also permitting views out for occupants.
Balconies for the two street-facing properties are contained behind these dot-patterned walls.
This strategy made it possible to create secluded outdoor space for all five properties, plus walls of floor-to-ceiling of glazing. The only home without a balcony opens out to a semi-private terrace on the ground floor.
Rather than drawing a clear boundary line between the dwelling and nature, or the city and the architecture, we have created a vertical domain that considers the moderate distance between environment and architecture.
The building has a concrete frame. Aside from the perforated steel screens, exterior materials are kept simple, with white render and a few areas of stainless steel.
