Raw silk is incredibly good for the skin, containing many health gifting naturally occurring enzymes and proteins that help heal, strengthen, and make beautiful your skin and hair.
Garshana massage increases circulation, pulls out toxins, can reduce cellulite, and remove dead skin.
Used in the ancient healing tradition of Ayurveda as a part of daily self care.
Excellent for all skin types including sensitive skin and face skin. Raw silk is hypo-allergenic and has naturally occurring mold and bacteria inhibitors.
and so much more!
Raw silk feels similar to a nubby cotton fabric as it is spun from broken short strands of silk, one of the reasons it can be found in the form of ahimsa (peace) silk which is taken after the silk worms have emerged from their cocoons causing the strands to break and becoming unusable in traditional finely spun silk.
Silk is a spun thread from the silk worm and as such it consists of two types of proteins, sericin and fibroin along with 18 amino acids.
It is the only type of material I'm aware of available to use as clothing that is of its nature, for example we don't make spider fabric from Spider webs, yet the silk from the silk worm is much the same thing.
In production the silk worms egg is tossed in boiling water to separate the two types of proteins, the sticky, webby sericin rises to the top to be used in medical products while the fibroin is untouched, leaving the billowy transparent silk most people associate when they think of silk. In this process the worm is also boiled in order to maintain one long thread as its emergence would create broken threads. Broken threads are what is used to create raw silk.
In the case of raw silk the sericin is often left intact and the silk is woven from broken strands of silk, thus creating the nubby silk noil or raw silk.
A few amino acids inherent in silk are as follows
Glycine-which is used in cellular repair in connective tissue. Collagen, for example, consists of about 1/3 glycine. It is necessary for skin to remain firm and beautiful.
Alanine- is used to reduce free radicals in the body and create a smoother appearance in skin by decreasing wrinkles, thus it is often used in anti-aging formulas.
Serine- another one of these building blocks of protein necessary for healthy cell development and maintainence, pure awesome sauce!
And many more!
So now you know a few reasons why silk is amazing!
On to garshana massaging (dry brushing)!
