Polyvinylidene fluoride, or PVDF for short, is a highly non-reactive thermoplastic fluoropolymer. It can be synthesized by the polymerization of vinylidene fluoride. Soluble in strong polar solvents such as dimethylacetamide. Excellent anti-aging, chemical resistance, weather resistance, ultraviolet radiation resistance and other properties. It can be used as engineering plastics, used to make sealing ring corrosion-resistant equipment, capacitors, and also used as coatings, insulating materials and ion exchange membrane materials.

Application

In the biomedical field, PVDF membranes are often used in immunoblotting, on which proteins are electrophoresed. Because PVDF is solvent resistant, the films used in the assay can be easily peeled off and reused to detect other proteins. PVDF membranes can also be used to make syringe or wheel membrane filtration devices. The material's heat, chemical resistance, and low protein binding properties allow it to be used as a sterile filter in the preparation of pharmaceuticals, and as a filter during sample preparation for analysis such as HPLC, preventing costly The equipment was damaged by the small amount of particulate matter in these samples. PVDF can also be used to make professional monofilament fishing line as an alternative to traditional nylon monofilament. Its hard surface is more resistant to abrasion by sharp fish teeth, and its optical density is lower than nylon, making fishing line less visible to a keen fish eye. At the same time, its density is greater than nylon, so that the fishing line can sink towards the fish faster.
