Toughened/Tempered Glass is fabricated by heating annealed glass to over 600°C and cooling it rapidly, which locks the outer surfaces of the glass in a state of high compression, and the core or center of the glass in compensating tension. It is a safety glass which is used when strength, thermal resistance and safety are important considerations.

1. In the event of breakage the particles are small and are relatively harmless compared with the sharp splinters resulting from the breakage of annealed glass. 2. The toughening process also greatly reduces the risk of thermal breakage. 3. Up to five times stronger than annealed glass of the same thickness, making it an ideal safety or security glass. 4. Conforms to the requirements of BS6206:1981 Class A as well as European Standard BS EN 12150. 5. Available in Clear, Tinted, Reflective, Low Iron, Etched, Textured, Colorsmart, Thermocolour and Low E glass types. 6. Allows architects and builders far greater scope in their use of glass in buildings.
