Product Details

Product Description:

46% Cr2O3 Chromite Sand for Foundry

Chromite Sand is a special sand for foundry. It is a natural spinel dominated by chromite. After crushing, grinding and sieving, it is divided into prescribed grain size, and is suitable for sand for molding (core-making). Chromium ore sand can be divided into two grades according to chemical composition, first grade Cr2O3 (> 45%) and second grade Cr2O3 (> 35%).

Feature:

1. Heated Volume Stability

2. High thermal conductivity

3. Strong alkali resistance

4. Solid phase sintering, non-sticking sand

THE ADVANTAGE OF CHROMITE SAND

Comparing with silica sand, chromite sand can avoid most sand stick on the casting, therefore it can also save cost to make surface treatment. Moreover, chromite can be recycle used for several times upon to different technology.

Over all the chromite ore in the world, the one from South Africa are of the best quality level. So HAIXU Abrasive import original chromite ore from there and refine it to better purity to 46% Cr2O3.

Application:

1.Chromite Sand in the foundry industry

l  Its properties enable the material to be used in high duty grey iron and steel foundries as core and mold making sand.

l  Its high thermal conductivity gives it good chilling properties, low thermal expansion gives rise to good dimensional stability.

l  Its basicity being close to neutral allows the use of a wide range of resin bonding systems and inorganic binders, it has a high refractoriness and a broad sieve distribution.

Chromite sand is suitable for steel casting including foundry such as:
Green Sand molding;
Shell molding;
Pep-Set system;
Furan Resin and Alkaline-phenolic Resin;
Core molding
Lost foam casting

How to Choose grit size for foundry?
Generally, the smaller casting needs to make, the finer grit size foundry adopted.The following frame shows it for reference:

2.Chromite Sand in the steel industry 20-70#

l  In steel production, Chromite Sand is used as well filler for protection of the sliding gate in large steel holding ladles.

Chromium drainage sand is made of chromite sand and additives. It has the advantages of high specific gravity, good fluidity, high melting point, and no excessive sintering. In the chromium drainage sand, when the added amount of chromite is greater than 60%, the chromite is continuously distributed, and this distribution helps to form a continuous sintered layer. At high temperature, FeO in the chromite reacts to desolvate and form secondary spinel, which causes the volume of the sintered layer to change and cracks. In this way, when the sliding plate is opened, the unsintered drainage sand under the nozzle will flow out quickly, and the cracks in the sintered layer will rapidly expand, The sintered layer is completely destroyed under the action of the static pressure of molten steel, so that the purpose of automatic pouring can be achieved. Chromium drainage sand is used by most large steel mills, accounting for about 30% of the entire drainage sand for ladle, especially for refined ladle.

3.Chromite Sand in the glass industry

l  When ground to a fine flour, Chromite Sand is used as colorant for the production of green glass beverage containers.
