Grade 310 / 310S stainless steel (1.4845) is one of the most widely used grades of heat resistant stainless steel supplied into numerous industry sectors. Material is stocked in Plate, Sheet, Round Bar, Wire, Pipe and Tube.

Grade 310 / 310S stainless steel (1.4845) is one of the most widely used grades of heat resistant stainless steel supplied into numerous industry sectors. The key properties of this material are its high chromium and medium nickel content making its resistance to oxidation, sulfidation and other forms of hot corrosion its main characteristics. Whilst retaining good strength when exposed to high temperatures, like most austenitic grades this grade will also maintain its strength and toughness at sub-zero temperatures. Overall this grade is an excellent choice for various applications ranging from furnace components to burner tips. 310 / 310S has a maximum dry air service temperature of 1100ºC.

Fabrication and Heat Treatment

Machinability
Grade 1.4845 stainless steel can be machined similar to that of grade 1.4301 stainless steel.
Welding
Grade 1.4845 stainless steel can be welded using fusion or resistance welding techniques. Oxyacetylene welding method is not preferred for welding this alloy.
Hot Working
Grade 1.4845 stainless steel can be hot worked after heating at 1177°C (2150°F). It should not be forged below 982°C (1800°F). It is rapidly cooled to increase the corrosion resistance.
Cold Working
Grade1.4845 stainless steel can be headed, upset, drawn, and stamped even though it has high work hardening rate. Annealing is performed after cold working in order to reduce internal stress.
Annealing
Grade 1.4845 stainless steel is annealed at 1038-1121°C (1900-2050°F) followed by quenching in water.
Hardening
Grade 1.4845 stainless steel does not react to heat treatment. Strength and hardness of this alloy can be increased by cold working.
Applications
Grade 1.4845 stainless steel is used in the following applications:
Boiler baffles
Furnace components
Oven linings
Fire box sheets
Other high temperature containers.
