 All Aluminum Alloy Conductor Steel Reinforced (AACSR)

 

1)  Construction:

AACSR is a composite concentric-lay-stranded conductor. Galvanized steel stand or strands form the central core of the conductor, around which is standed one or more layers of  Aluminum Alloy wires. The steel core may consist of single stand or a concentric stranded cable of 7, 19, 37, or more wires. Numerous combinations of aluminum alloy and steels and layers are possible.

 

2 Voltage: AACSR (All Aluminum Alloy Conductor Steel Reinforced) for High Voltage(HV) and Medium Voltage (MV) Transmission Overhead Lines as usually manufactured according the above standard.

 

3)  The permissible long-term operating temperature for aerial conductor is 70

 

4)  The electrical performance of AACSR is indicated in DC /km(20). The resistivity of the hard aluminum alloy wire for stranded wires is not greater than 0.028264Ω·mm2/m of international standard value

 

5)  The rated tensile strength of ACSR is denoted with sum of all aluminum conductors strength and steels tensile strength. The tensile strength of galvanized steel wire should not less than 1244N/mm2(1244MPa).

 

6)  The rated tensile strength of AACSR is denoted with sum of all aluminum alloy conductors strength and steels tensile strength.

 

7)  Features and Benefits

AACSR (Aluminum Conduct Steel Reinforced) is composed by concentric-lay-stranded galvanized steel wires and aluminum alloy wires; It combine the light weight and good conductivity of aluminum with high tensile strength and ruggedness of steel. In line design, this can provide higher tensions, less sag, and longer span lengths than obtainable with most other types of overhead conductors. This steel strands are added as mechanical reinforcements. The cross section above illustrate some common stranding. The steel core wires are protected from corrosion by galvanizing.

 

8)  Application

AACSR (Aluminum Conduct Steel Reinforced) is widely used as bare overhead power transmission and distribution lines. AACSR used as bare overhead transmission cable and as primary and secondary distrubution cable. AACSR offerss optimal strength for line design. Variable steel core stranding enables desired strength to be achieved without sacrificing ampacity.
