The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve re-circulates 5 to 15 percent of the exhaust gases to reduce emissions. As the emissions pass through the car naturally in a small passageway between the intake and exhaust manifolds, the EGR valve opens and pushes them back through the system to re-filter and reduce the emission.
