1. The characteristics of Powder Metallurgy

2. Process Difficulties of Powder Metallurgical Materials

(1) Even though Powder Metallurgical Component only have small allowance, but it is very difficult to machine, because these type materials has porous structure which reduce the tool life. 

(2) The Porosity will lead to the Micro fatigue of the cutting edges. When the cutting tools machine these type materials, the tips will continuous obey the impact, and it will make the tip produce small crack, which will Gradually increase and become small chipping. And it will show with normally wear.

(3) The porosity also will reduce the Thermal conductivity of the Powder Metallurgy component. The cutting tip has high temperature when in the process, and cause the insert deformation. The Internal porous structure will lead to the Hot crack or deformation.

(4) Internal porous structure will lead to the hardness fluctuation, and the Macro hardness will be about HRC20~35, however the partical hardness will be about HRC60 which will make the insert tips wear seriously.
