Super absorbent polymer is also called slush powder , it can absorb and retain extremely larege amounts of a liquid relative to their own mass. SAP can absorb aqueous solutions through hydrogen bonding with water molecules. The capacity of super absorbent polymer for absorbing aqueous solutions in water and in normal saline is not same. Super absorbent polymer ability to absorb water depend on the ionic concentration of aqueous solution. Normally speaking, in deionized and distilled water, SAP can absorb about 300 times its weight. About 30 to 60 times its own weight. then become up to 99.9 percent liquid. But when put into 0.9 percent saline solution, the absorbency drop to about 50 times its weight.The presence cations in the solution impedes the polymer's ability to bond with the water molecule.
