1, What is "type" mean?

The “Type” indicates the level of protection offered by protective clothing as defined by the European Standards. Cat. III includes six “Types” for the classification of protective clothing : Type 1 (gas-tight clothing), Type 2 (non gas-tight clothing), Type 3 (Protection against pressurised liquid chemicals), Type 4 (Protection against liquid aerosols), Type 5 (Protection against airborne solid particulate chemicals) and Type 6 (Limited protection against mist).

2,What does the CE mark of protective clothing tell me ?

Protective garments which carry the CE mark “CE” only are Category I products and are not to be used for protection against any kind of hazard. Protective garments which carry the CE mark plus a four digit code of the notified body “CE xxxx” have been certified by an independent notified body as PPE of category III, Chemical Protective Clothing. To carry the CE mark, Chemical Protective Clothing (cat. III) they must pass one or more of the garment “Type” tests, meet or exceed minimum requirements for the fabrics physical and chemical properties and be correctly identified and labelled. In addition, the protective clothing must be manufactured to a consistent quality, and the manufacturer must either hold a quality certificate, such as ISO 9000, or be subject to regular inspection.

3,Which whole suit leak tests are required for a garment carrying the CE-mark ?

CE certified garments must pass the following tests : movement test as pre-treatment test for the whole suit leak test, inward leakage test for Type 1 according to EN 943-1,

Jet test for Type 3 according to EN463, Spray aerosol test for Type 4 according to EN468, particle inward leakage test for Type 5 according to EN 13982-1 and the low level spray test for Type 6 according to EN468.
