Chinese Pinyin: Niaosu [14C] Huqi Shiyan Yaohe
[Composition] Main composition: 14C-Urea.
[Character] On the inner wall of the Urea [14C] capsule in the Kit is a layer of white powder.
[Radionuclide half life] The half life of 14C is 5730 years.
[Radioactive activity and indicated time] Radioactive activity: 2.78×10-2MBq(0.75×10-3 mCi)
Indicated time: Day__Month__Year
[Indication]14
C-Urea Breath Test Kit is intended for use in the detection of gastric urea as an aid
in the diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) infection in the human stomach.
[Administration and Dosage]
1.The test should be conducted on fasting patients in the morning or on patients
who didn’t take food for two hours, and patients should gargle before the test.
2.The patient takes one Urea [14C] capsule with 20ml cool water, and then sits still
for 15 minutes.
3.Unpack and take out the mouthpiece and the collection card body then connect the front end of the collection card body with the mouthpiece. Then the patient blows into the mouthpiece with adequate force. He can remove his mouth to take a breath while blowing, but never suck the intake. Keep blowing for 3 to 5 minutes and then stop.
4.After breath sample collection is completed, mark the collection card with
number properly.
5.Insert the collection card into the test chamber in the measuring apparatus and
press “run” to test the radioactivity (in CPM) of sample carbon [14C] for 250 seconds.
6.Values for judging Helicobacter pylori infection:
Positive Hp (+): CPM ≥ 50
Negative Hp (-): CPM ≤ 40
Indefinite Hp (?): 40 < CPM < 50
[Absorbed dosage of internal radioactivity]
The dosage absorbed after taking the drug orally is calculated respectively for the adult
male and female patients, and the results are shown in Table 1 and 2, where the weight
factor used for calculating the effective dosage is quoted from GB 8703-88.
[Adverse Reaction(s)]
Unknown.
[Contraindications]
Unknown.
[Precautions]
1.Pregnant and lactation women should not take such test
2.Factors list below may affect the diagnosis from the test:
(1) The patient took such Helicobacter pylori sensitive drugs as antibiotics,
bismuth preparations and proton pump inhibitors within one month.
(2) It should be noted that Helicobacter pylori can be restrained during hemorrhage
time of upper alimentary canal, and thus it makes the test false negative. If the
hemorrhage of alimentary canal was over for more than one week, the diagnosis
won’t be affected.
(3) Partial gastrectomy may allow the isotope to be discharged from the stomach
quickly or make the patient lack the stomach acid.
3.Never attempt to open the collection card when it is not used. Otherwise, the card
may absorb CO2 from the air and thus the test result will be affected.
4.Do not use a broken capsule.
5.If the package of the collection card is broken and there is air leakage on it, do
not use it.

[Pharmacology and Toxicology ]
As urease doesn’t exist in the cells of mammals, the urease in human’s stomach proves
the existence of helicobacter pylori. Besides, no other bacteria are found in the stomach.
Once the patient takes urea [14C] orally to detect the helicobacter pylori in the stomach,
the urease produced by the helicobacter pylori in the stomach, if they exist in it, will
quickly decompose the urea into CO2 and ammonia, and CO2 will go into the lung via the
blood and be discharged out of the body. Therefore, it can be judged whether the patient
is infected by helicobacter pylori after the collected 14CO2 is measured.
[Phamacokinetics]
Oral urea [14C] can be quickly absorbed to reach the peak value of absorption within
0.11 hours. It can also be discharged quickly, with half life as 5.15 hours, kidney
clearance rate as 0.617L. Kg-1.h-1. On the other hand, the drug can be excreted soon
mainly in the form of urine, for within 24 hours, 65% of it can be discharged through
