Description:
Cemented carbide is a WC-CO composite which is made possible by powder metallurgy methods. It consists of wear resistant particles (the hard phase WC) bonded together by soft ductile phase (Co).
In applications which demand a high level of hardness combined with strength and toughness, tungsten carbide (WC) is the normal choice for the hard phase. Cobalt (Co) is usually chosen for the binder phase.
The grain size of the WC can be made to vary from 0.1 μm to 10 μm, over which fine control can be exerted.
The grain size for a particular application is an important variable which, together with the cobalt content, dictates the mechanical properties of the particular grade composition.

Areas of Application:
We would be glad to advise you when choosing the grades to suit optimally your requirements. Here are applications that our HF06(K10)fits for cutting.
1. Grey cast Iron
2. Unalloyed steels
3. Plastic
Advantage:
Compared to high speed steel, tungsten carbide consists of natural hard and stable phase, and practically doesn’t lose any level of its high hardness when heating up. However, the high hardness of HSS is only in a result of quenching process during which hard phase nucleates & grows. It breaks down easily when annealing. Therefore, carbide tools last significantly longer than HSS.
In addition, carbide allow for faster machining. Carbide tools can also withstand higher temperatures than standard high speed steel tools.
