What is HPS Grow lights ?
 
HPS grow lights emit light in the orange to red spectrum, making them best for use during the reproduction, or flowering stage of marijuana growing.
Whilst HPS grow lights are very efficient their lack of light in the blue spectrum makes them okay for the vegetative stage of indoor growing where no natural light source is available but not ideal. Indoor plants grown only with HPS light during the vegetative stage will generally be too skinny and grow too quickly.
Where HPS grow lights come into their own is during the flowering or reproductive phase of marijuana growth. The light from the orange/red spectrum is perfect for triggering hormones in the plants which increases budding/flowering of the marijuana. Marijuana grown hydroponically using HPS grow lights will generate a better yield than that grown using only MH lights
On the downside, HPS lights use a lot of energy and create a lot of heat, which needs to be dissipated with air-conditioning or an exhaust system which requires more upfront investment from the grower.
