Insulated glass consists of two panes of glass separated by a space. The perimeter of the glass is sealed, allowing no movement of outsideair into the space. The space itself can be filled with dehydrated air, or witha special gas. The type of glass, the type of spacer, and the type of gas usedin the space contribute to the overall insulating efficiency of the glass, andalso the total cost.
Condensation forms when warm airis cooled. So in the case of windows, the moisture in the warmer air that iscooled condenses on the glass causing moisture and thus condensation. Where thewindow has only single glazing, the cool temperature on the outside transferseasily to the inside and condensation occurs rapidly.
With double glazing, there is improved thermal insulation between the outsideand inside due the gap between the glass layer.As a result, condensation isgreatly reduced.The benefit to you is a warmer, drier home.
