The Swann OutbackCam Portable 5MP Digital Video Camera & Recorder is a compact digital camera with a DVR system. It works great for leisure activities such as hunting or fishing, as well as surveillance purposes. Its 5MP 1/2.5" CMOS sensor for good images even in low-light situations. Capture clear JPEG photos or 640 x 480 AVI video at 30fps. Plus, it's equipped with a normal, or standard, 7.6mm (35mm equivalent: 45.6mm) lens providing a 55° angle of view. A highly convenient feature of the camera is its motion-triggered recording, which is great in that it allows you to conduct extended monitoring over long periods of time without having to physically be there to hit the record button.

The OutbackCam is enclosed in a durable, water-resistant casing, so it's safe to use in the rain or near the water. The case simply snaps closed. This day or night camera features night vision up to 32' (9.75 m). Track when your photos were taken and during which lunar phase with convenient day, time and moon phase stamping. Attach the camera to a tree, post or similar surface via the included tree strap, so you can monitor animals or capture trespassers, vandals or other offenders in the act. To secure the camera against theft, you can attach an optional padlock or chain (not included) to the integrated loop on the enclosure.

The camera comes bundled with a 4GB SDHC memory card, which you can replace with a larger-capacity card up to 32GB (not included) for additional storage space. The OutbackCam takes 4 AA batteries (not included).

Such a tool is especially useful to hunters, but can also come in handy for nature photography: If some of your night photos seem to have a darker or lighter background, you can see if that was related to how bright the moon was at the time
