Basic situation of Vanuatu port
The traffic facilities are backward and the cost is expensive. At present, there are no railways in China. There are 1858 kilometers of highways, most of which are dirt roads and gravel roads. The asphalt road is only more than 100 kilometers. Transportation is mainly by sea, and there are about 40 docks in the whole country. Most of them are used for domestic Island transportation. The condition is simple and the traffic is limited.
The port of Vanuatu has a total of two international deep-water wharf, Port Vila is located in the port of Luganville and Santo island. In 2009, Vanuatu imported about 54000 tons of cargo, Port Vila take 80% of them (about 43200 tons), the remaining 20% in Luganville port; exports about 35000 tons, of which 70% shipment in the port of Luganville, the other 30% in Port Vila.
The main port of Vanuatu Port Vila currently has four terminals, namely Dinh wharf, Star wharf, Government wharf and Main wharf. The first three facilities were crude, built earlier and had not been effectively expanded and repaired for many years, and they were gradually unable to meet the increasing demand. Mainly for the domestic transportation, Port Vila imported materials, 57% (about 25000 tons) through the three terminal transport to the island.
