High-Cut and Low-Cut Singlets

There are two types of men's and youth singlets: the high-cut singlet, and the low-cut (or freestyle-cut) singlet.  The high-cut singlet is the style that is used in all junior high and high school competition, as well as NCAA Wrestling. One question we get asked frequently is where are the low-cut singlets that my dad wore in the 80's, 90's and early 00's. Low cut singlets were banned from World Championships and the Olympics a number of years ago. To be honest, I am surprised they are still allowed in competition because in Freestyle and Greco Roman wrestling the low cut singlets provide an advantage to the wrestler. It's much harder to turn a wrestler wearing a low cut singlet. 

We have seen top tournaments like Fargo have requested teams phase out their low cut singlets, but they are allowed (at least for now). If you are bringing a low cut singlet to a tournament, it's probably a good idea to have a standard high cut one also.
