Hand polished lacquerware is a renowned handicraft type in Shanxi Province. Being a type of lacquerartwork, it is famous because of its palm polishing process. Pingyao Lacquerware is a typical hand polished lacquerware, and it is one of the four greatest lacquerware types of China. The best-known handicraft techniques of Pingyao Lacquerware are palm polishing and painting with gold. Enjoying a history of over 1200 years, Pingyao Lacquerware was first found in Kaiyuan Period in the Tang Dynasty and became popular in the Qing Dynasty.
