POLYCARBONATE is a modern complement to glass. POL YCARBONATE sheets combine a variety of features, enabling a wide range of uses for designers and constructors alike.
Features
POLYCARBONATE's range of features make it one of the most advanced polymers in the field of plastics today.
Its impact strength, transparency, light weight and flexibility make POLYCARBONATE suitable for all covering and glazing needs.
Strength
Of all these features, POLYCARBONATE is legendary for its amazing strength. Whether used to manufacture unbreakable outdoor glasses or bulletproof windows, POLYCARBONATE is being used by innovative designers for a myriad of indestructible products.
Product Availability
POLYCARBONATE is available in a wide range of thicknesses and sheet sizes. The product is alsoavailable cut-to-size.
Thicknesses: 4 mm -14mm
Durability
POLYCARBONATE has been developed to withstand the harsh effects of the sun by utilising a coextruded uv protective layer.
The result -an amazing 10 year limited guarantee. POLYCARBONATE offers other important
Features including:
-Clarity (light transmission for clear sheet is 92%). -Tints light transmission 50%).
-Chemical resistance.
-Abrasion resistance.
-Thermal insulation.
Working temperature: -30°C -+ 120°C
Light transmittance:Clear 92%
Tints 50%
General
During most phases of fabrication or installation, it is recommended to keep the polythene masking in place. You can remove the masking by rolling it round a circular object (e.g. a cardboard tube). During cutting and drilling always wear your safety glasses and make sure the POLYCARBONATE sheet is well supported.
Cutting
POLYCARBONATE sheets can be cut with bandsaws, handsaws, circular saws and othercutting tools. Avoid using high-speed equipment made for cutting steel, since the friction tends to melt the POLYCARBONATE. Guillotine cutting is possible but not recommended for thicknesses of more than 4.5mm. When cutting POLYCARBONATE mirror make sure the laminated side . is facing up. Where possible use fine toothed, carbide tipped blades for cutting.
Drilling
Always drill oversized (2mm extra) holes to allow for expansion/contraction. Make sure the drill is blunted. The drill bit is normally carbide tipped. Drill at a good speed but do not put too much weight on the sheet. If you are not using a fixing with a neoprene washer you will need to apply silicone (neutral cure) to drilled holes.
Cementing
POLYCARBONATE is very difficult to cement.
For high impact, weather resistant uses we recommend Dow Corning 739 plastic adhesive. It bonds POLYCARBONATE to metals, glass and other plastics including POLYCARBONATE itself.
Cold Bending
POLYCARBONATE sheets may be installed with a stressed curve, as long as the curve is within the specified limits. POLYCARBONATE sheet characteristics will not be affected and they will retain their impact resistance, transparency and weather resistance as long as the minimum radius does not fall below 200 times the sheet thickness. Heat forming is very difficult and you should consult a professional plastics fabricator before attempting this.
Cleaning
POLYCARBONATE can be cleaned with a soft cloth or sponge, using soap or mild detergent.
Glass cleaning agents that contain ammonia should be avoided as they will damage the POLYCARBONATE. (see your glass merchant for full details on chemical resistance to POLYCARBONATE).
Guarantee
POLYCARBONATE sheets have a ten year limited guarantee (see your glass merchant for details).
