1.Description

Plantain chips are made simply from the raw vegetable, plantain which most Americans mistakenly call banana because of the resemblance.  Plantain differs from banana in the following ways: They are classified as vegetable but bananas are considered fruits. Plantains have thicker external skin than Bananas.  They are starchy while bananas are sweet.  They are fried, baked or cooked before serving but bananas are eaten raw like fruits.  They are longer than bananas.

Plantains grow best in warm climate temperatures with less strong winds.

Plantain chips are made by cutting or slicing the plantain to the desired shape and thickness and then fried with tropical palm oil or with vegetable oil before serving.  The different flavors come from the type of plantain used that is if the ripe (yellow external skin) or the unripe (green external skin) are used and if further seasonings are required.

Plantain chips have been around for decades in tropical Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean but recently it has begun to gain more and more recognition in Western Europe, Canada and the United States.
