The handle is made of a very rare burled wood. It is a tree growth in which the grain has grown in a deformed manner. It is commonly found in the form of a rounded outgrowth on a tree trunk or branch that is filled with small knots from dormant buds (more about burl wood read on wikipedia). Wood such is  very rich texture and it is a material for the for exclusive accessories, sometimes burl wood is used in most expensive reels seat.
